Nevada County Public Works is starting repairs and surfacing along Dog Bar Road, Carrie Drive, Bobcat Court, and Cougar Court in Grass Valley, and Gold Country Drive in Penn Valley as part of the 2023 Road Rehab Project, beginning June 12th through mid-August 2023.

As construction begins in these areas over the next three months, please plan for up to 20-minute delays from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm Monday through Friday due to one-lane traffic controls. Motorists will have access throughout construction, and message boards will be placed 72 hours before construction to allow residents to plan accordingly.

The road projects will take place on the following:

  • Dog Bar Road between Alta Sierra Drive and Mount Olive Road, Grass Valley
  • Dog Bar Road between Morning Sun Lane and Magnolia Road, Grass Valley
  • Carrie Drive between Gary Way and Dog Bar Road, Grass Valley
  • Bobcat Court, Grass Valley
  • Cougar Court, Grass Valley
  • Gold Country Drive, Penn Valley

Knife River Construction is the contractor for the project. The road will be prepared for the asphalt overlay by sweeping and removing any loose material that may be present. A tack coat will be applied before the road is paved and compacted with the asphalt overlay. The contractor will close access to vehicle traffic in freshly paved areas for a few hours to allow the asphalt to harden. Once the asphalt has hardened, the contractor will reopen the area to traffic.

Pavement overlays and micro-surfacing play a critical role in maintaining the road’s surface and service life. Roads are selected for rehabilitation based on several factors, including condition and average daily traffic.

Nevada County Public Works will provide regular project updates on Nevada County Public Works Facebook and the Annual Road Rehabilitation Projects webpage. Residents can also sign up for the County’s weekly newsletter to stay informed of project milestones and progress.
