When we combine local funds with state and federal funds, we can achieve bigger things that move the needle for public safety in Nevada County.
Last year, Senator Feinstein helped Nevada County secure $750,000 toward Phase 2 of the Ponderosa West Grass Valley Defense Zone and has recommended that we receive the same amount for maintenance of Phase 1 this year. This critical fuel break, which got off the ground via $3.5M in funding from CAL FIRE, improves evacuation routes and protects downtown Grass Valley, as well as 3,000 nearby homes from an eastward moving fire.
Recently, local leaders gave representatives from the senator’s office a tour of the project and a bigger picture look at plans to keep our community safe. We extend a hearty thanks to Senator Feinstein, CAL FIRE, and our partners at Fire Safe Council for their role in supporting a wildfire resilient Nevada County!
