In order to assist Nevada County residents in preparing for fire season, the Doris Foley Library in downtown Nevada City will offer free document scanning events on four upcoming Saturdays. Library staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on June 18, June 25, July 9, and July 23. Participants will receive free flash drives to store scans of their important documents and a packet of information including personalized evacuation route maps and evacuation zone information.
Appointments can be made by calling the Foley Library at (530) 265-4606. Drop-ins are also welcome. Participants should bring critical documents that they would want to have with them in case of an evacuation, including identification cards, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies, tax records, vehicle titles, Social Security cards, military records, real estate and property records, and up to ten photographs. A list of vital records can be found at news.caloes.ca.gov/vital-records/.
The Doris Foley Library for Historical Research is located at 211 North Pine Street across from the Nevada City Courthouse, on the corner of Pine and York streets. Scanning events at the Foley are presented in partnership with Ready Nevada County (readynevadacounty.org) and YubaNet.
