Adult Literacy Tutors

A rewarding, fun, enjoyable, productive opportunity to give back to the community is offered in this volunteer position. Pressure free instruction, working at each individual's own pace, and knowing that everyone is here for the same reason gives both the volunteer and student satisfaction and growth.

Apply to be a tutor for the Truckee Library Adult Literacy program through the Volunteer Application page. West County is currently at capacity and not accepting new volunteer tutors for the Adult Literacy Program. 


Do you:

  • Read, write and speak English well?
  • Are you 18 years of age or older?
  • Are you available 2 to 3 hours per week?
  • Are you patient and flexible?
  • Are you a good communicator and a good listener?
  • Do you want to make a difference?
  • Do you want to meet people and make friends?


Teaching experience is not required. You will be comprehensively trained in a Tutor Training Workshop. We also offer Tutor Improvement meetings to further sharpen your skills.
