The Truckee Station responds to approximately 300 plus square miles of Nevada County. The area encompasses the Township of Truckee, which is the most heavily populated and is 34 square miles. The unincorporated areas of this portion of the county consist of snow-covered peaks up to 8,000 feet, numerous recreational lakes, streams, and rivers.
The Town of Truckee, consisting of approximately 15,000 residents, is predominately a resort-oriented area with many ski resorts. Lake Tahoe and the city of Reno are within easy driving distance of Truckee. The Station is approximately 54 miles from its headquarters and separated geographically by the Donner Summit, Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.
Truckee Jail
Long-term detainees are transported to the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City. All of the correctional officers assigned to the jail have varied duties, including occasionally being a transport officer.
