Remote Accessible Vote by Mail

A remote accessible vote by mail (RAVBM) system is a mechanical, electromechanical, or electronic system and its software used for the sole purpose of marking an electronic vote by mail ballot, which is then printed and then sent to the elections official for counting. RAVBM systems are not connected to a voting system and must be certified for use in California. Any voter may access RAVBM to get an electronic copy of their ballot, as well as the County Voter Information Guide and Sample Ballot.

Military and overseas voters, and voters with disabilities, find RAVBM to be a convenient way to receive elections materials. If you would like to access elections materials, you must be a registered California voter and must have a Nevada County address.

If you use RAVBM to complete your ballot, please remember to print out your ballot and do the following:

  • Military and overseas voters may mail back their printed back to our office or may fax their completed ballot. If you do, make sure to include your Oath of Voter. Detailed instructions can be found on our website https://nevadacountyca.gov/704/Military-Overseas-Voter-Information
  • Domestic voters must return a ballot by mail, by drop box, or in person. You may not fax back your RAVBM ballot.
  • Under California law, no one may email a voted ballot.
