Adult Protective Services

The Department of Social Services for the County of Nevada, Adult Protective Services (APS), provides a support system to elderly and dependent adults who may be subject to neglect, physical abuse or exploitation, or who are unable to protect their own best interests.

Investigations

Investigations are done by APS social workers in conjunction with other community agencies, as appropriate. APS investigates reports made on individuals who live outside of licensed homes or facilities.

Ages Covered

The adult population covered by these laws includes seniors or elders who are 65 years of age or older and dependent adults 18-64 years of age. Nevada County APS investigates allegations of abuse and provides assessments and service plans based on need. These services may include referrals to other community agencies.
